So it's been six months since I've done anything to this blog, life got real busy for me.  Some of the things have changed for me with school and learning more about Learning Disabilities that I have, and trying to find what works for me. I took some time off, but I will be going back to school this fall and I cannot wait! I have found some new tools that I feel will help me the most. Also, I have been working on my ceramics as much as I can with a full time job. Working with the homeless is very taxing to the emotional side of me.  So to combat it, I joined Veterans in the Arts where I have learned some new ways to make bowls and things. Plus, it is a great stress reliever. Wow - I have a lot of stuff to catch up on.  Hm-mm.

My own studio

When I started ceramics, I was taking a class at school.  Now that summer has come and school is done, I haven't had a place to work with clay.

So I have been working to get things to have my own studio.

I found a counter on freecycle.org.  It was in someone's garage when they bought their house, taken from a local bakery, and they weren't wanting it anymore.

Workspace.....check!

I've been watching Craigslist.org, and recently found a wheel.  It is a Craftool potters wheel.

Pottery Wheel.....check!

Along with the wheel, the gentleman also gave me some batts, clay, tools, and a bucket.  How could I pass this up!

Batts, clay, tools, bucket.....check!

I've also picked up a few various shelves here and there, so things are definitely starting to come together.  Then next thing on the list is an electric kiln.  Which I found on Craigslist.org and will be picking up tomorrow.

Everything needs to be cleaned up a bit, but I will have my studio set up in no time!

From the beginning...

Three of my greatest inspirations are Industrial & Mechanics, and the Steampunk Movement.  Gears have always fascinated me, and I wanted to bring these inspirations into my work.
My very first bowl ever made.

My gear foot, applied gears, and cutouts.

My second gear bowl.

I am definitely finding my niche!
Welcome to The Gear Works!

In September 2011, I took my first semester of pottery at school without knowing where it would take me.  Through the semester, working with clay began as therapy, but then I found my immense passion for pottery.  Ideas began flowing, and I began creating.  I was amazed to see what was coming out.  Once others saw my work, I was told I needed to share my pieces with the art community.  With hesitation, I participated in my first art show in April 2012, and the feedback was overwhelming!

I knew that I must continue my ceramics, so I am in the process of figuring out ways to work with clay and create over the summer.  I am working to make a wheel, find places to fire and glaze, and move forward with my passion!

I hope you enjoy looking at my work as much as I enjoy making it!
